Going Vogue. Living Vogue. Being Vogue.

As a 16 year old living outside of Washington, D.C., I am eager to express myself in a world of emerging fashion and conservative style. “Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it.” – Yves Saint Laurent

Fashion Week: J.Mendel

J. Mendel has always been a favorite of mine, I have always loved the understated glamour of all of their garments. This Fashion Week, they debuted their collection on September 14 with celebrity guests in the audience, such as Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen , and they definitely didn’t disappoint. I have noticed that this upcoming summer is all about light weight chiffon – and I could not be more excited about it! The color palette is similar to the one we saw in the Vincent Van Gough inspired Rodarte collection. Both designers used  a lot of rich blues and yellow hues. My favorite part of this collection is the two toned dresses with the pop of color visible on the inside of the dress – absolutely genius! I am so excited to see what celebrities will be sporting these classic silhouettes with a modern spin on the red carpet this award season! My favorite piece is definitely the low v-neck, white and cream gown – it has an etherial feel to it, that I absolutely love! I would love to hear your thoughts on J. Mendel’s newest collection.

New York City Fashion Week: Rodarte

Rodarte’s Summer 2012 collection is fun, flirty, and fabulous! I love the enlarged prints and rich indigo blue, bright aqua, and marigold yellow hues. The starry nights and sunflower themed creations make it evident that Rodarte drew inspiration from Vincent Van Gough this season. There is no doubt that we will be seeing these pieces on celebrities and fashionistas in the next couple of months. The show attracted a vast crowd of celebrities including, Elle and Dakota Fanning, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Vogue editor, Anna Wintour.

Van Gogh’s brushstrokes infused pretty much everything we did,” Laura said after the show. “Our color palette, the embroidery, the designs. Every decision we made, we asked: Could this be part of a van Gogh painting?” – Laura Mulleavy, Co-Founder of Rodarte

Laura and her sister Kate, the founders of Rodarte, definitely succeeded in creating a cohesive collection inspired by Van Gough. I would love to hear your thoughts on their new designs – especially their take on the summer pant suit!
